Located in Broward County, Plantation is a tree-filled South Floridian city that a population of roughly 85,000 calls home. Though this city did suffer extensive damage as a result of 2005’s Hurricane Wilma, it has bounced back strongly and thus, the Plantation real estate market is an active one. Potential residents can choose from a variety of both condos and homes for sale, with an average listing price of $227,500. If you’re looking for a seasonal residence, you can expect to pay an average rental amount of $2,297 per month. Residents and visitors alike affectionately refer to Plantation’s atmosphere as an ‘urban environment’, yet with a more relaxed ‘hometown feel.’

This centrally located Broward County locale is not only convenient (it’s bordered by the popular Floridian cities of Fort Lauderdale and Sunrise), but it’s also bursting with amenities. Families and those who enjoy an active lifestyle will appreciate the many parks and recreational facilities, such as the Aquatic Complex (which includes two Olympic size pools), the Equestrian Center, and the Veltri Tennis Center. Golf lovers especially are sure to enjoy the fact that the city owns and operates its very own 18 hole championship golf course, Plantation Preserve Golf course and Country Club. Other popular points of interest include the Botanical Gardens (with over 50 species of flora on display), a regular farmers market, the Hoffman Library, and a multitude of shopping centers. Also of note is the fact that the city is well served by Broward County Transit (BCT), which not only operates locally but also connects residents with other cities within Broward County (the transit systems of Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties are also reachable via BCT).

The population of 85,000 is predominantly comprised of homeowners (81 percent of the total population) and those who are college educated (roughly 54 percent). Additionally, approximately 31 percent of the population consist of families with children, who are served by the local public school system along with a number of private educational institutes. Though the majority of the population is English-speaking, the city also boasts small vibrant communities of Spanish speakers, French creole speakers, Hebrew and Portuguese speakers. Many residents are employed by the large corporations which are headquartered in the city, such as DHL and Goodwin Biotechnology.

If you’re on the hunt for your next home or even a seasonal rental and prefer a laid-back, friendly ‘small town’ feel with the amenities and advantages of a larger metropolitan area, this city has plenty to offer.
